Police conduct searches at Korsakov seaport on Sakhalin

Far Eastern policemen became aware of the possible commission of a number of economic crimes by the leadership of Korsakov seaport

VLADIVOSTOK, August 19 (Itar-Tass) - The police have conducted searches in the office of the leadership of Korsakov seaport (Sakhalin Island), seizing documentation with a total weight of 900 kg. “Inspections have been conducted and many printed and electronic financial and economic documents” were seized in the premises of the enterprise, as well as in the companies belonging to the port’s director general, chairman of the board of directors and other managers, the Russian Interior Ministry’s main department for the Far Eastern Federal District said in a release on Monday.

Deputy head of the Russian Interior Ministry’s Far Eastern department Alexander Razin told Itar-Tass that “the Far Eastern policemen became aware of the possible commission of a number of economic crimes by the leadership of Korsakov seaport. The investigation is currently underway and a procedural decision will be made on its results.”

The port is located on the coast of Aniva Bay (south Sakhalin); the port’s annual cargo turnover is about 1 million tonnes.
