OMSK, August 17 (Itar-Tass) - The steersman of the Polesye-8 passenger ship, which collided with a cargo barge on the Irtysh River, was drunk, an Omsk regional police source told Itar-Tass.

Fifty six people, including four crewmembers, were aboard the ship. According to the updated information, the number of dead and injured people has risen to 39. Twenty people are hospitalized. Ten are in serious condition.

The boat was on the way from Omsk to Achair.

Police, investigators and ambulance teams are working at the site. The area is cordonned off.
