Russia to shut down 700 schools in 2013 due to demographic problems

"You understand the reasons: there aren't any pupils," Russian consumer rights watchdog chief Gennady Onishchenko explained

MOSCOW, August 14 (Itar-Tass) - Russian consumer rights watchdog chief Gennady Onishchenko said 700 schools will be shut down in the country this year because of demographic problems.

"We are planning to shut down 733 schools this year," Onishchenko told a news briefing after a conference on Wednesday. "In the Central Federal District, 466 schools are slated for closure. You understand the reasons: there aren't any pupils."
