MEXICO CITY, August 13 (Itar-Tass) - The guided-missile cruiser Moskva has arrived in Nicaragua on a friendly visit. The welcoming ceremony was attended by representatives of the High Command of the Nicaraguan Army. The cruiser moored at Corinto port on the Pacific coast.

Russian Ambassador to Nicaragua Nikolai Vladimir told Itar-Tass on Monday that part of the Russian vessel’s crew will take part in the celebration of the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of the country’s Navy and in a number of cultural events planned by the authorities of the Central American country. The main rally on the occasion of the holiday will be led in Managua by President Daniel Ortega. It will be held in Revolution Square in the centre of the capital.

“Within the framework of the Nicaraguan visit the public is to be admitted on board the Russian cruiser,” Vladimir said. According to him, on August 16 the ship will continue the voyage the program of which, in particular, envisages a call to a Venezuelan port.

“Initially, the visit of two ships of the Russian Navy to Nicaragua had been planned, but then the second vessel got another assignment from the command,” the ambassador said.

According to him, the Nicaraguan authorities attach major importance to the arrival of the ship of the RF Navy. “It is the first call of a Russian warship at a Nicaraguan port in the country’s history,” the official stressed.
