Russia, Japan Deputy FMs to meet in Moscow on Aug 19

TOKYO, August 9 (Itar-Tass) - The Deputy Ministers of Forein Affairs of Russia and Japan, Igor Morgulo and Shinsuke Sugiyama, will hold a meeting in Moscow on August 19. This information was confirmed by an official at the Japanese Foreign Ministry in an Itar-Tass interview here on Friday.

"The Deputy Foreign Ministers will meet on Aug 19," the Ministry official said. According to NHK television channel, Igor Morgulov and Shinsuke Sugiyama when meeting in the capital of Russia will discuss the question of South Kuriles which Japan regards as its "northern territories".

According to information by media here, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov is to visit Tokyo in the coming autumn. During the visit the sides are expected to touch upon the South Kuriles issue. With this end in view, the Japanese government hopes to reach accord on the making of a visit by Forein Minister Fumio Kishida to Russia at the beginning of January 2014, Japanese media point out.
