SOCHI, August 8 (Itar-Tass) - Most Russian residents take a positive attitude towards the upcoming Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi, according to a public opinion poll, which was conducted in 22 Russian regions in April-May 2013.
Organizers of the Olympic Games 2014 said all respondents were informed about the upcoming winter Olympic Games 2014 (97%) and the Paralympics (93%). “Most Russians (83%) have a positive attitude towards the Olympic Games in Sochi: 46% of respondents support an idea of holding the Olympic Games in Russia and 37% of respondents back the Games. Eight percent of respondents are neutral to the Games while the number of skeptics decreased by 4%,” organizers said.
Most Russian residents believe that the Olympic Games will help children treat each other better, improve the image of the country and influence tourism and involve people in the activities of local organizations.
The Sochi 2014 image is positively interpreted by most of the population (74% of respondents respond in such a way). In addition, 99% of respondents learnt the Sochi 2014 emblem at once. Half of respondents intend to buy goods with the Games symbols.
The organizers said the most part of the population was planning to watch the Olympics and Paralympics. A total of 17% of respondents seek to arrive in Sochi to attend the competitions.
