Lavrov: Russia closely cooperates with Ghana on international stage

“We appreciate Ghana’s position on peacekeeping problems and conflict settlement,” Russia's Foreign Minister said

MOSCOW, August 7 (Itar-Tass) - Russia values relations with Ghana on the international scene, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in his opening remarks to a meeting with his Ghanaian counterpart Hanna Tetteh on Wednesday.

“We appreciate Ghana’s position on peacekeeping problems and conflict settlement,” he said. “In our joint work in the United Nations and other international organizations we closely cooperate. We have very close positions in man issues and they are based on the principles of the supremacy of international law.”

Lavrov noted that Tetteh’s visit was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relations. “This is a good opportunity for us to consider the strengthening of our cooperation in different areas,” he said. “We have vast opportunities for enhancing bilateral interaction in different areas.”

Tetteh said in turn this was her first visit to Moscow, which “provides a good opportunity for discussing enhancement of relations that have always been warm.”
