Policeman injured in shootout with gunmen in Nalchik dies at hospital

MOSCOW, August 7 (Itar-Tass) - A policeman injured in the shootout with the gunmen in Nalchik died, a criminal case was opened over the attack on a police patrol, the press service of the Russian Investigative Committee told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

A road police patrol in the residential area Alexandrovka in Nalchik, the North Caucasus Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, demanded at about 23:55 Moscow time on Tuesday that a car VAZ-217030 Lada Priora should stop in Kalinin Street. “After the stoppage three of four people, who were in the car, have made numerous shots at the policemen. All four attackers were killed in the retaliatory fire. In the shootout a policeman has got numerous gunshot bodily wounds of which he died at the hospital. The killed gunmen are being identified,” the press service said.

The criminal case was opened for illegal circulation of weapons and ammunition, illegal circulation of explosives and the attempt on the life of law enforcers.

“A bandit is a ringleader of gangs in Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia,” the press service of the republican Interior Ministry said. The name of the killed gunman is not disclosed.
