NALCHIK, August 7 (Itar-Tass) - One of the four gunmen killed by the police in Nalchik overnight to Wednesday was identified as leader of armed criminal gangs active in Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachayevo-Cherkessia, the press service of the interior ministry of the Russian North Caucasian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria said on Wednesday but refrained from providing further details.
According to earlier reports, four gunmen who wounded a police officer were killed in the city of Nalchik. “Shortly after midnight, policemen stopped a Lada Priora car,” the ministry spokesman told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. “Four men who were inside the car opened gunfire at the police. They were neutralized.” An investigation is underway. The police do not rule out that there can be explosive devices inside the car.
