NOVO OGAREVO, July 29 (Itar-Tass) - Building a new aircraft carrier in Russia is a matter of geopolitics and has to be decided by the president, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said.
No decision has been made so far, he told journalists on Monday, July 29. However it will be considered within the framework of the state armament programme for 2016-2025.
“This decision will be made personally by the president when forming the state armament programme for 2016-2025,” Rogozin said, adding that the construction of such ships is “not so much an engineering and technical question as it is a geopolitical one.”
He noted that aircraft carriers solve geopolitical tasks only. “It is up to the head of state to decide whether Russia needs to solve such tasks,” he said.
