Czech tourist dies while rafting down mountainous river in Russia’s Yakutia

VLADIVOSTOK, July 29 (Itar-Tass) - A Czech tourist has died while rafting down the mountain stream Agayakan in Russia’s Siberian republic of Yakutia, a spokesman for the republican emergencies department said on Monday.

According to the spokesman, the lethal accident took place on Sunday when the 52-year-old Czech tourist and his Russian partner were rafting on board a kayak pairs within a tourist group. When their kayak overturned, the Russian tourist managed to get ashore.

The Czech tourist was in a special diving suit and a life jacket, and had necessary survival devices. As many as 28 rescuers took part in the search operation.

The dead body was found overnight to Monday some 15 kilometers downstream from the site of the accident, the spokesman added. The body will be taken by a Mi-8 helicopter of the Russian emergencies ministry to the city of Yakutsk later on Monday.
