KIEV, July 27 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian Orthodox Church has called on the leaders of different Slavic countries to make Rus Baptism Day the national holiday.

A proposal was put forth at the session of the Holy Synod at the Kiev Pechersk Lavra on Saturday.

“By keeping in mind paramount significance of the Baptism of Rus for the history of the countries and the Russian Orthodox Church’s canonical responsibility it is necessary to urge the leaders of the countries, where such decision has not taken yet, to give Rus Baptism Day the status of national holiday and the day-off if it possible,” the Holy Synod said in its report.

From 2010 Rus Baptism Day is marked as the day of remembrance. This is the day-off. Ukraine marks this day from 2008.
