NIZHNY NOVGOROD, July 20 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian Interior Ministry Investigation Directorate for the Nizhny Novgorod region’s Lyskovo district has instituted criminal proceedings on a traffic accident that killed five people and injured nine people.

“The criminal proceedings have been instituted for violations of traffic rules and the infliction of death of two or more people by negligence,” the Interior Ministry Directorate reported.

A Mercedes driver, who collided with a passenger Gazelle on the Moscow-Ufa highway in the Lyskovo district, has been detained, the directorate said.

“According to preliminary data, the driver of the truck registered in Kazakhstan passed by a vehicle and crossed into the oncoming lane where the truck collided with the passenger Gazelle,” police said.

Five people died and another nine people were injured. They have been hospitalized in the Lyskovo Central Clinic. Most people are in critical condition.

The Gazelle followed to Nizhny Novgorod from Mari-El. The dead and injured people are residents of the Mari-El Republic.
