Krasnoyarsk territory police detain driver who fled scene after fatal road accident

The car then slipped into a ditch and hit a concrete obstacle, five persons died and two were injured

KRASNOYARSK, July 16 (Itar-Tass) - The driver who caused a fatal road accident in the Krasnoyarsk territory on Monday night and fled the scene has been detained, the press service of regional police told Itar-Tass.

"The person was detained in the town of Sosnovoborsk, 30 kilometers from the crash site. He has a previous criminal conviction. The issue of his arrest and opening of a criminal case is under consideration," the press service said.

Among the victims are two children and their mothers who are sisters. The fifth fatality is one of the passengers of the car. Another two passengers were hospitalized. According to preliminary reports, they were in a state of alcoholic intoxication.

The road accident occurred five kilometers from the village of Yesaulovo, Berezovsky district at 01:00, local time /21:00, Moscow time/. The driver of a Toyota lost control of his vehicle and ran over four pedestrians. The car then slipped into a ditch and hit a concrete obstacle. Five persons died and two were injured.
