MAKHACHKALA, July 15 (Itar-Tass) - Two militants were destroyed in a shootout with police in Dagestan's Laksky district on Monday, preliminary reports said. Law-enforcers believe it is these militants who shot and killed four police officers last Sunday, a law-enforcement source told Itar-Tass.

"In the course of an anti-terrorist operation in the Laksky and Kulinsky districts of Dagestan, law-enforcers detected suspicious persons in the abandoned village near the settlement of Burshi. When police tried to approach the scene, they were fired upon. Two militants were destroyed in an ensuing shootout. The special operation is continuing," the source said.

There have been no official comments from the republic's law-enforcement bodies on the Laksky district fight so far.
