KAZAN, July 14 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s city of Kazan, which is hosting the World Student Games, has good chances to win the right to host the Olympic Games in 2024, Russian canoer and kayakist Sergei Ulegin, the winner of the silver medal at the Beijing Olympic Games and Ambassador of the ongoing Universiade in Kazan, told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
“There is a big festival in Kazan. And you plunge into this atmosphere as soon as your plane touches the ground. When you gets out, you are welcomed by volunteers,” he said.
According to Ulegin, the Universiade is a success. “The city is in a perfect condition. All sports facilities are perfect. The Games’ scale and the organization level are very high. So, I think, if Kazan decides to vie for the right to host the Olympic Games in 2024, it can easily win. It has very good chances after the World Student Games,” he noted.
He believes that Kazan already now has many facilities of the Olympic scale. “The city has a lot of facilities that meet the highest international standards. It will have to build not very many new facilities. I sincerely wish Kazan to be the host of the Olympic Games in 2024,” Ulegin stressed.
Earlier, Secretary General of the Russian Olympic Committee Marat Bariyev voiced the idea that Kazan may bid for hosting the 2024 Olympics. “Kazan may file an application, its chances will be very good,” he said.
