Ukrainian watchdog demanding info from Russia on foot-and-mouth disease

If Russia doesn't provide the necessary information on measures taken, the transit of Russian grain via Ukraine may be banned

KIEV, July 11 (Itar-Tass) - Ukraine is awaiting information from Russia on the measures being taken there to eradicate the hotbeds of the foot-and-mouth disease /FMD/, the emergence of which was registered in some regions of Russia earlier, Ukraine’s State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service said Thursday.

Its press release contained the words of its Deputy Director Vitaly Bashinsky, who said: “If we don’t get the information by next Monday, July 5, on the measures that have been taken, the documents banning the transits of Russian grain via the Ukrainian territory will be drafted by next Friday.”

Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy, Alexander Sen told reporters earlier in the day the Ukrainian government had asked the Russian Foreign Ministry to clear out this situation.

“Decisions will be taken on the basis of the information we get /from Russia/,” Sen said.
