UN Counter Terrorism Committee confirms Russia’s innovative approaches towards fighting terrorism

The Committee’s decision proved Russia’s leading role in strengthening the system of international counter-terrorism cooperation

MOSCOW, July 11 (Itar-Tass) - The U.N. Counter-Terrorism Committee’s report confirms Russia’s innovative approaches towards fighting terrorism, the Foreign Ministry reported on Thursday.

The report has been given after the visit to Russia by the U.N. Counter-Terrorism Committee delegation, the ministry said.

“The report presents Russia’s experience on international counter-terrorism cooperation due to the country’s role in the U.N. Security Council. Special attention was paid to improving inter-departmental coordination under the auspices of the National Counter-Terrorism Committee, ensuring transport security, fighting sponsorship of terrorism and spreading the terrorist ideology and extremism. The report focused on global legal anti-terrorist cooperation, Russia’s participation in the activity of international organizations to make anti-terrorist contribution to its partners,” the ministry said.

The report notes “Russia’s achievements in the above-mentioned fields and formulates recommendations on prospects for further cooperation with the U.N. Counter-Terrorism Committee”, the ministry said.

“The Committee’s decision proved Russia’s leading role in strengthening the system of international counter-terrorism cooperation and confirmed the country’s innovative approaches towards carrying out counter-terrorism tasks in compliance with the resolutions of the U.N. Security Council,” the ministry stressed.
