МOSCOW, July 8 (Itar-Tass) - President Vladimir Putin has endorsed Vladimir Fortov’s election as president of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Fortov was elected to this post on May 29. He replaced Yuri Osipov.
The Academy’s 436 institutes employ 95,000 people (13 percent of all persons engaged in science in Russia). With funding amounting to 13 percent of the country’s budget, the Academy of Sciences carries out 60 percent of fundamental research in Russia.
