Russia should use role in G20 to build effective dialogue with G8, BRICS

Russian Sherpa Kseniya Yudayeva expressed her view on Russia - G8 relations

ST PETERSBURG, July 8 (Itar-Tass) - Russia plays the unique role in the G-20 and its role can help build an effective dialogue with the Group of Eight and BRICS, Russian Sherpa Kseniya Yudayeva said on Monday.

“To some extent, Russia is the bridge between the G-8 and BRICS countries because Russia is a member of both clubs,” Yudayeva said at the G-20 expert conference on raw materials and energy markets currently underway in St Petersburg.

She stressed, “Russia should be considered a country, which helps maintain unity and create an atmosphere of consensus and trust between its members. The trust is indispensable to make the political efforts effective, exchange experience and conduct regulation in different trends.”

Such position “allows Russia to increase the G-20 role as a serious international players in economic politics”, she said.

“It is impossible to seriously talk on coordinating political efforts in different fields without involving key players from the so-called forming markets,” Yudayeva said.

The expert noted that she meant relationship with China. “The economic development in Russia is considerably linked with the situation in China. Russia is not alone in this aspect. China won the serious position on the world arena. Russia takes relationship with China for granted - what basis the strategy and the behaviour should be built on within different international formats,” Yudayeva pointed out.
