KAZAN, July 8 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian national team faces the task to take the top place in the medal ranking at the Kazan Universiade, the team can fulfil it, Secretary General of the Russian Olympic Committee Marat Bariyev told a press conference at the TASS-Club here on Monday.
“Yesterday was successful for the Russian national team. It is always very exciting to begin the tournament. The fact that our young athletes succeeded to overcome the worries and prove their master skills, points to the level of their training and the level of their mastery,” Bariyev said.
“In general, the Russian national team faces the task to take the top place for the number of the gold medals and other medals. Any result, except for this one, will be considered as negative. I believe that the national team can finish at the top place in the team standings at the Universiade,” he noted.
Bariyev also noted that the Russian team has candidates for the victory almost in all kinds of sport. “Almost everywhere we have candidates for winning the medals. Despite the fact that our team is the most numerous one at the Universiade, it almost does not have any athletes, who do not claim for medals. There are very many world-renowned athletes - Olympic champions, world champions, honoured masters of sport in the Russian national team. This fact shows that the champions continue to study and get the higher education,” Marat Bariyev said in conclusion.
