KAZAN, July 6 (Itar-Tass) - Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin started the final stage of the Univeriade Torch Relay in the Capital of Tatarstan on Saturday. The torch will be carried in Kazan for the final part of the route to light the Games Flame during the opening ceremony on Saturday night.
The final relay stage started from the Athletes' Village when Metshin handed over the torch to European weightlifting champion Andrei Demanov. It will be carried by head of Russian volunteers Almaz Askarov, FISU (International Federation of University Sports) President Claude-Louis Gallien, FISU Vice-President and head of the Russia Students' Sport Union Oleg Matytsyn, Kazan-2013 Director General Vladimir Leonov, winners of the contest "I am a Torchbearer», Olympic Committee Secretary General Marat Bariyev, Russian Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and others.
The Universiade opening ceremony will begin at 21:30 Moscow time.
