Putin asks officials to decide whether they are administrators or scientists

According to Putin, officials “are very active and esteemed people, having certain levers of influence on all spheres of activity, including the scientific sphere”

MOSCOW, July 3 (Itar-Tass) - Russian President Vladimir Putin offers high-ranking officials to make up their minds as to where they work - at government agencies or at the Academy of Sciences.

“Over the recent years names of my colleagues from different departments, officials of high level, can be seen increasingly often in the Academy along with well-known in the scientific world names of the people who have done a lot for the applied and fundamental sciences,” the president said at a meeting with elected President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Fortov.

According to Putin, officials “are very active and esteemed people, having certain levers of influence on all spheres of activity, including the scientific sphere”.

“Of course, it is necessary to analyze their real contribution to science, and how they will build their activity - in administrative agencies or in the scientific sphere,” the president stressed.

“This may seem a trifle, but it affects Academy’s system, this is not an idle question and attention must be drawn to it,” he stressed. “There must be no extravagant decisions, but still colleagues must be aware where they work and what they have to do first,” Putin marked.
