MOSCOW, July 2. /ITAR-TASS reporter Antonina Maga /. Best readers of Koran from more than 30 countries will come to Moscow in September this year to compete in the knowledge of the Sacred Book in Arabic, as reported today by the Council of Muftis of Russia /CMR/.

The delegations will represent such countries as Turkey, Iran, Amman, Germany, the UK, Malaysia, Indonesia etc.

“Although there can be only one participant from each country and the winner is normally from an Islamic country, this annual forum is one of the most important events for the Russian Muslims. This is an opportunity to revive the traditional Islamic craft of Koran hifz, and people mastering it become very respectable and can serve as imams in mosques,” told th deputy head of CMR Rushan Abbyasov.

He also added that the Moscow contest of readers is the only one being held in Europe.

“All Koran, and there are about 600 pages, can be learned by heart for a period between half of a year and 2-3 years. It is appreciated, if the reader has a beautiful voice, in addition, there are special rules for intonation. The tradition of the Koran hifz allows us to keep our religion undistorted through the ages,"- also said Abbyasov.

The final selection of Russian participants will take place on August 4 in the "Ramadan Tent" annually held on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow. It is expected that here will arrive about 20 top readers from Moscow, Ufa, Makhachkala, Grozny and other cities, who has previously passed the competition in their own region.

The Grand Final of the competition, which will take place the 14th time, will be held on September 15 in "Russia" concert hall.
