Alferov plans to be discharged from hospital after urgent surgery in 3-4 days

The hospitalization “was scheduled beforehand,” he said

ST. PETERSBURG, July 2 (Itar-Tass) - The Nobel Prize winner in physics Academician Zhores Alferov said in an interview with Itar-Tass on Tuesday that he plans to be checked out from the hospital after “an urgent surgery” already in 3-4 days.

The hospitalization “was scheduled beforehand,” he said, and was delayed over an extraordinary meeting of the presidium of the St. Petersburg RAS Scientific Centre, at which the bill over a reform of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) was discussed on Monday, July 1.

“It was scheduled for July 1 (to be hospitalized), but it was delayed for a day, as we discussed a very important issue,” Alferov, 83, said. “The surgery is expected to be not complicated, I hope that I will be discharged from the hospital in 3-4 days,” he said.

According to the RAS Scientific Centre, this is a scheduled bypass surgery at a St. Petersburg clinic.
