MOSCOW, June 24 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian party Civil Force on Monday nominated Alyona Popova, the coordinator of the Civil Corps of Volunteers, as a candidate for Moscow mayor.
Her candidacy was supported unanimously by a meeting of the party’s Moscow branch, the Civil Force’s press service said.
According to Vladislav Inozemtsev, a Civil Force leader, the party has nominated a good candidate. “Alyona is known as a woman of action,” he told journalists. “She has a strong program, she knows how to solve Moscow’s problems, first of all the most pressing social problems. I am sure with a candidate like this we can make the forthcoming elections real elections rather than mere voting for one candidate.”
Civil Force that was wound up in 2008 after the Right Cause party was formed restored its independent party status in 2012. In 2007, Civil Force was among the parties that nominated Dmitry Medvedev as candidate for Russian president.
Early elections of Moscow’s mayor will be held on September 8. It will be the first direct elections in the past ten years.
