KAZAN, June 14 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Sport Minister Vitaly Mutko said on Friday that the Russian national team has been tasked with winning the first place at the forthcoming ХХУП World Student Games.
"The Russian team was second at the previous World Student Games in the Chinese city of Shenzhen,” Mutko who is on an inspection tour of Kazan said.
Russia will send the largest team to Kazan this time. Almost a thousand athletes will complete in 27 kinds of sport. According to Mutko, the Russian students include 25 Olympic champions and masters of sport who are expected to show better results than at the previous games.
Mutko said that for the first time the federal government passed a decision on additional encouragement of the University Games winners. The champions will receive 160,000 rubles and silver medal winners will get 70 percent of that sum.
The minister added that all athletes in the Russian national team were preparing for competitions at sport training camps.
The Russian national team will arrive at the University Games village in Kazan on June 29.
