RPR-PARNAS recommends to nominate Navalny for mayoral race

Moscow will hold its mayoral elections on September 8

MOSCOW, June 9 (Itar-Tass) - The bureau of the opposition Republican Party of Russia - People’s Freedom Party, RPR-PARNAS, has recommended its Moscow branch to nominate opposition leader and anti-corruption campaigner Alexei Navalny to run for Moscow mayor, RPR-PARNAS co-chair Boris Nemtsov told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

“The bureau held its meeting, where it decided to recommend the Moscow branch to nominate Navalny to run for Moscow mayor,” he said. “Under the party’s charter a decision is taken by the Moscow branch. It should do this on June 15.”

In an interview with the Echo of Moscow radio station Navalny said that his nomination by the party gives him big chances in the race.

RPR-PARNAS “is the only registered opposition party” that may support his nomination, he said. “I addressed my colleagues with this request myself. In the near future the nomination will be legally documented.”
