MOSCOW, June 9 (Itar-Tass) - Fourth-seeded Elena Vesnina of Russia said their Grand Slam victory together with Ekaterina Makarova in the women’s doubles final of the French Open on Sunday was her greatest success in her career.
The Russians won their first Grand Slam title together defeating champions Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci of Italy 7-5, 6-2.
“We are very happy that we managed to win our Grand Slam title in the women’s doubles,” Vesnina told Itar-Tass by phone.
“For me the tournament at the Roland Garros courts is my favourite in the series. This title is special one for me, as we together with Ekaterina entered the finals for the first time and won it at once. It is especially pleasant to defeat the world’s clay court champions in the women’s doubles. This is one of the biggest successes in my life.”
Ekaterina Makarova in turn said she had no words to express her happiness.
