LDPR might nominate MP Andrei Lugovoi candidate for post of Moscow mayor

Sergei Sobyanin did not say whether he would run for the mayor's post in the early election

MOSCOW, June 5 (Itar-Tass) - The LDPR party might nominate its deputy to the State Duma, Andrei Lugovoi, a candidate for the post of the Moscow city mayor if the early election of the Moscow city mayor is appointed, member of the LDPR High Council Yaroslav Nilov, who heads the Duma Committee on public associations and religious organizations, told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

The LDPR party discussed possible candidates for the mayor's post on Tuesday, and Lugovoi was named as one of the most likely candidates from LDPR, Nilov said. This problem will be discussed by the LDPR faction at the State Duma, and a final decision on the candidate will be made at a conference of the LDPR Moscow organization, Nilov said.

Earlier, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin had approved the idea of holding the early, direct election of the Moscow city mayor and said that he would appeal to the Russian president, asking to hold the early election this year already, Sobyanin said at a meeting of the Russian Public Chamber.

However, Sobyanin did not say whether he would run for the mayor's post in the early election. Sobyanin has to resign from his post now and get the Russian president's consent to his participation in the early election of the Moscow mayor.
