Smoke in tunnel stops trains on Moscow metro’s Sokolniki line again

47 people were injured, seven of them were hospitalized

MOSCOW, June 5 (Itar-Tass) - The smoke appeared again on the Sokolniki metro line between the metro stations Okhotny Ryad and Biblioteka Imeni Lenina, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

“The train traffic is stopped again over the smoke reappeared in the tunnel,” an EMERCOM source said.

For his part, head of the press service of the Moscow main department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Viktor Biryukov noted that no fire broke out. “The high voltage cable is sparkling, its short circuit triggered the fire and the smoke appeared,” he noted.

The high voltage was switched off again and the train traffic was stopped again from the metro station Park Kultury to the metro station Komsomolskaya.

The firemen, who left the incident site, arrived to localize an emergency situation again.

The fire broke out over the short circuit of the high voltage cable in the morning rush hour in the tunnel between the metro stations Okhotny Ryad and Biblioteka Imeni Lenina on Wednesday. People had to be evacuated from the metro stations and the trains stranded in the tunnel. The train traffic was restored at 12:00 Moscow time from the metro station Park Kultury to the metro station Komsomolskaya, but it is provided according to the curtailed schedule.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that 47 people were injured, seven of them were hospitalized.
