KIRKENES, Norway, June 4 (Itar-Tass) - Russia is ready for any cooperation with the United States as long as it is peaceful, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday.
“We are ready for cooperation in various spheres. The only this that matters is to ensure the peaceful nature of such cooperation,” Medvedev said in an interview with the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK).
“Even if we belong to different military political groups, we can promote peaceful cooperation instead of looking for foes or indulging in intelligence,” he stressed.
“But countries still do these things, it is an absolutely normal idea but it should not dominate over peaceful purposes, over practical purposes. And in this sense we are open for cooperation with the United States,” Medvedev assured.
According to the Russian prime minister, life proves that such cooperation is quite possible. “Over the recent years, we have established or tried to establish such cooperation in various spheres, including in the area of the Barents Euro-Atlantic region. All the more that we have joint interests here. For instance, such as joint sea rescue operations,” he noted. “The same could be said about common environmental problems, problems of global warming, creating wildlife reserves.” He reminded that one such reserve has recently been established. “I signed a relevant resolution, now we are waiting similar steps from the Americans,” he added.
