MOSCOW, May 31 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the League of Arab States Secretary General, Nabil al-Arabi, discussed the format of an international conference on Syria by telephone on Thursday. The telephone conversation took place at the al-Arabi’s request, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.
The sides discussed the situation in Syria and other issues related to it. Lavrov told al-Arabi about preparations for convening an international conference on Syria and the Russian vision of its format. Lavrov urged LAS to step up efforts so as to make the conference fruitful.
"The LAS secretary general confirmed his support for the May 7th Russian-U.S. initiative and stressed the importance of international and regional assistance to a political settlement in Syria and to ending the dangerous and blood-letting armed conflict in that country,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
