MOSCOW, May 29 (Itar-Tass) - Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stresses the capital city is a Russian city and should remain as such.

In an interview with the Moskovskiye Novosti daily, which is due to be published on Thursday, he said he was against having in the city “ghettos, districts with monoculture.”

The world has experiences of the kind, but “nothing positive has come out of those.”

“Even the latest events in patriarchal Sweden have demonstrated it is very dangerous to form districts of the kind,” he said. “I am categorically against it. I believe that Moscow is a Russian city and should remain as such. Neither a Chinese, a Tajik or Uzbek.”

Sobyanin is also against having migrants remain in the city “for no reason.”

“If we are to keep anybody, then those first of all who speak Russia, who share the culture adequate to our traditions. We call them generally compatriots,” the mayor said. “Those who speak Russian poorly, whose culture is quite different, should rather live in their countries.”

“This is why we do not welcome their adaptation in Moscow,” Sobyanin said. “I believe, those are rather season workers, who, having finished their work, should return to their families, to their houses, to their countries.”

“We are always happy to welcome guests, Russia is a multinational country, all nationalities and traditions are mixed here. Picking those or contradistinguishing them to other cultures is a danger, which may cause explosions, especially in this city,” the mayor said.
