MOSCOW, May 29 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry had a telephone conversation on Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
The top diplomats of the countries “discussed the situation in Syria, including practical issues of the run-up to an international conference over peaceful settlement of the conflict in that country,” the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.
“Russia does not see another way to settle the conflict in Syria, except for the convening of an international conference,” Lavrov said on Wednesday. “But it is needed for this so that everybody will work honestly and will not admit double standards: in words to call for a conference and support this initiative, but in fact to take some steps, which are actually aimed at undermining this proposal,” the Russian foreign minister underlined.
