Education ministry acknowledges violations in issue of academic degree diplomas

After the PGO forwarded the statement to the education minister, six officials were fired from civil service and two were demoted

MOSCOW, May 29 (Itar-Tass) - The Ministry of Education and Science acknowledged that in 2012-2012, its personnel committed violations in issuing academic degree diplomas and permits to launch the operation of dissertation councils.

A commission was formed on April 12, 2013, to ascertain the facts of these violations by Ministry officials, following the statement by the Prosecutor General's Office which had demanded that the situation be rectified.

"A check found that the violations of legislation were committed in 2011-2012," the Ministry said.

By the time the check was launched, four Ministry personnel had resigned: three stepped down because of reorganization within the Ministry, and one resigned of his own accord. Two personnel of the department for certification of scientists and educators were warned about the inadmissibility of violating legislation and possible measures to discipline them, to as far as dismissal.

Prosecutors said education ministry officials also violated the law in launching or terminating the operation of certification boards.

After the PGO forwarded the statement to the education minister, six officials were fired from civil service and two were demoted.
