Russian education ministry doesn't confirm official's resignation

"Perhaps, there will be some information later", the Ministry's press service said

MOSCOW, May 28 (Itar-Tass) - The Ministry of Education and Science has not confirmed the report on the resignation of Deputy Education Minister Igor Fedyukin, carried by the newspaper Izvestia on Tuesday.

"We've seen the article, but cannot comment at present. Perhaps, there will be some information later," the Ministry's press service told Itar-Tass.

According to the newspaper, the decision to relieve Fedyukin of his duties was made last week, following the scandal around the authenticity of his certificate of higher education and criticism by Federation Council speaker Valentina Matviyenko. The official denied the information about his dismissal.

Meanwhile, the Izvestia said the fact of resignation had been confirmed by lawmakers at the State Duma lower house of the Russian parliament and a source at the High Certification Board.
