MOSCOW, May 22 (Itar-Tass) - Office of Russia’s Prosecutor General has submitted to court a case over twelve activists of the off-parliament opposition who were involved in a street riot on Moscow’s downtown Bolotnaya Square May 6, 2012.
“Deputy Prosecutor General Viktor Grin endorsed an indictment on the so-called Bolotnaya case,” the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office said. “A total of twelve people were brought to criminal responsibility in the course of its investigation.”
According to the investigators’ findings, “May 6, 2012, when an authorized March of the Millions rally was in progress on Bolotnaya Square, the individuals concerned made public appeals for disturbances and took an active part in them later.”
“They combined their actions with the destruction of property and violence against policemen,” the press service said.
“As a result, 82 policemen were injured and the size of the damage inflicted on federal and municipal organizations exceeded 28 million rubles /USD 1=RUB 31.2/,” it said.
“The case has now been submitted to Moscow City’s Zamoskvoretsky district court for consideration on merits,” the press service said.
As regards the other participants in the May 6, 2012, criminal offense, investigation of their involvement continues.
November 9, 2012, the very same Zamoskvoretsky district court sentenced a man engaged in the Bolotnaya Square riot, Maxim Luzyanin, to four years and six months in jail. He fully admitted his guilt and signed a pretrial collaboration agreement with the law enforcement officials.
