Ship with crew of Russians, Ukrainians is on fire at Japanese port

Fate of six sailors is unclear

TOKYO, May 16 (Itar-Tass) - The fire broke out onboard the ship Taygan with the crew of Russian citizens and Ukrainians at the port Wakkanai on the northernmost Japanese island Hokkaido on Thursday.

Three crewmen were saved so far, several more crewmen survived themselves.The fate of six crewmen remains unclear. The rescuers cannot get onboard the burning bulk carrier yet, the local branch of the Japanese maritime security service told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

The bulk carrier Taygan, which is registered in Cambodia and transported the crabs, had a crew of 14 Russian citizens and four Ukrainians. Most of them managed to leave the burning bulk carrier themselves. Three crewmen were hospitalized, their lives are reported to be out of danger.

Six fire trucks and two Japanese maritime security motorboats were dispatched to the burning ship.
