Police defuse three powerful bombs in Dagestan

Secret service personnel found three homemade bombs in the town of Buinaksk residents' homes

MAKHACHKALA, May 7 (Itar-Tass) - Police in the town of Buinaksk, Dagestan, defused three powerful bombs, a law-enforcement source told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

"Secret service personnel, acting on current information, found three homemade bombs in Buinaksk residents' homes, with a total yield of eight kilograms of TNT. They had to be defused on the spot," the police officer said.

The houses were damaged in the explosion. Police detained the owner of one of the three houses where the bombs had been found. He is being checked for connections to militants.

Police are also checking the information that these bombs were to have been used to stage acts of terror during VE Day festivities.
