MOSCOW, April 29 (Itar-Tass) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe instructed the foreign ministries of the two countries to intensify the work over a peace treaty between the countries. Putin told a joint press conference that he discussed with Abe the problem of the peace treaty at the negotiations in the Kremlin on Monday.

“We instructed our foreign ministries to intensify the contacts over the development of mutually acceptable variants. Meanwhile, we proceed from the importance of establishing two parallel processes: the debates over the peace treaty and at the same time the active promotion of the whole scope of Russian-Japanese relations,” the Russian president said.

He noted that the Joint Statement for the Development of Bilateral Partnership, which was adopted upon the results of the negotiations, is directed at this purpose.
