KIROV, April 17 (Itar-Tass) – Security measures are stepped up on Wednesday at the Leninsky court of Kirov, which begins the trial against lawyer Alexei Navalny and former director of Vyatka Forest Company Peter Ofitserov who are accused of embezzling property of the Kirovles enterprise. About 20 police officers are on duty in the court.
A large number of journalists gathered at the entrance to the court an hour before the meeting. People supporting Navalny also came to the court building – about 30 people with banners in support of the defendants, who started an authorised rally.
About 100 supporters of Navalny, including opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, as well as those who oppose the famous blogger, came to Kirov in connection with the trial. The charges brought against Navalny entail imprisonment for a term of up 10 years with a fine of up to one million roubles.
