Sochi will be ready to host G-8 summit in 2014 - Tkachev

An organizing committee of the 2014 G-8 summit gathered for its first meeting in Sochi on Thursday

SOCHI, April 4 (Itar-Tass) - An organizing committee of the 2014 G-8 summit gathered for its first meeting in Sochi on Thursday. Alexander Tkachev, the governor of the Krasnodar territory, wrote on his page in social networks that Krasnaya Polyana, an outskirt of Sochi, would be the summit’s main venue.

According to the governor, a G-8 summit in political life is as important as the Olympic Games in sport. “The fact of holding it in Sochi is a great honor and great responsibility. Krasnaya Polyana will be the summit’s main venue. The summit’s organizing committee has given a positive assessment to Sochi’s readiness to host the summit,” Tkachev emphasized.

Anatoly Pakhomov, the mayor of Sochi, said that the infrastructure of the mountain and coastal Olympic clusters will be ready by this autumn. A 22-kilometer-long water main, a 20-kilometer-long sewage collector and purification facilities with a daily capacity of 15,000 cubic meters have been built in Krasnaya Polyana. New hotels in the mountains will be able to accommodate more than 6,000 guests.

The handing capacity of the Sochi airport will also increase by 2014. It will service 24 take-offs and landings on a daily basis.
