ZHUKOVSKY (Moscow region), April 1 (Itar-Tass) – Commander of the Airlift and Rescue Centre of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence (EMERCOM) Andrei Voityuk is leading at the mayoral elections in the Moscow regional town Zhukovsky, head of the Moscow regional election commission Irek Vildanov told reporters on Sunday.
He noted that according to the election results from 40 polling stations Voityuk gained 37% of votes, his closest rival – businessman Igor Novikov polled 27.9% of votes, a candidate from the Russian Communist Party Alexander Anikanov – 25.4% of votes. The self-nominee and the frontman of the rock band Corrosion of Metal Sergei Troitsky nicknamed Spider gained 2.3% so far.
As many as 11 candidates were running in the mayoral elections. A winner should gain a simple majority of votes.
As many as 52 polling stations were working in Zhukovsky on Sunday. As many as 50 permanent polling stations were equipped with the ballot paper processing system, and two temporary polling stations were opened at the town hospital and the water and wastewater treatment plant, where the electronic ballot boxes cannot be placed under the election law and the ballot papers will be counted manually.
The controlling vote recount will be made at nine polling stations, Vildanov said.
The early mayoral elections were held in Zhukovsky over the fact that in late January mayor of this scientific township Alexander Bobovnikov, who occupied the post since 2000, resigned. First Deputy Mayor Stanislav Suknov became the acting mayor in Zhukovsky.
