Rescue operation in Kuzbass mine underway

The fate of the four miners remains unknown

KEMEROVO, March 27 (Itar-Tass) – The search and rescue operation is conducted in the Osinnikovskaya emergency mine in the Kemerovo Region, the fate of the four miners remains unknown, the press service of the regional department of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM) told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

The operation headquarters is headed by head of the Siberian Regional EMERCOM Centre Vladimir Svetelsky who arrived at the mine. Head of the Kuzbass EMERCOM department Alexander Mamontov has been working together with him at the site. “Also, psychologists have started work at the mine,” the press service added.

Overnight to Wednesday, the evacuation of 143 miners was conducted as water started to flow into the gas-drainage tunnel. A total of 134 people left the on their own, another five have been engaged in the drainage works in the mine, and the fate of four miners remains unknown.

The press service specified that two miners were injured in the accident, they were taken to hospital. The regional EMERCOM department earlier reported that one of the miners refused from hospitalisation.
