LDPR congress opens in Moscow

The party's leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky opened the congress attended by about 6,000 delegates, including almost a thousand of delegates from 83 Russian regions

MOSCOW, March 25 (Itar-Tass) – The 26th congress of the LDPR party has opened in Moscow on Monday.

The party's leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky opened the congress attended by about 6,000 delegates, including almost a thousand of delegates from 83 Russian regions. The participants stood up to greet the leader.

On the agenda was an hour-long political report of the liberal democrats' unchanged leader. The report is entitled "the LDPR in the Modern World".

The forum is planned to sum up the party's work results for the past year and determine objectives for the future. Among them is the participation in the September 8 election day.

The delegates are expected to elect the governing and control bodies and chairman of the party. The results of the secret ballot are planned to be announced at 16:00-17:00 Moscow time.

The congress will adopt a resolution entitled "the LDPR is Always in the Centre". There are five points in the draft document. One of them calls for approving the provisions of the leader's report. The others set tasks to work more with electors and continue to follow the guideline to rejuvenate the party. "Youth, purity, energy are our main resource," the draft resolution notes. The document announces "Rejuvenation, Renewal, Improvement" as the party's slogan. Another point calls for purity in elections, economy and politics.

Despite the slogan "the LDPR is always in the centre", the congress for the first time is held not in the central part of Moscow, but outside the city – in the Crocus City Hall.

It is a hall of huge capacity, but delegated jammed at the entry. Supposedly, because of this, the congress opened an hour later than planned.
