MOSCOW, March 18 (Itar-Tass) – Leader of Just Russia party members in the State Duma Sergei Mironov opposes depriving Dmitry Gudkov of the right to speak in the Duma, but believes the deputy must publicly make apologies for his U.S. trip.
"I has not approved Gudkov's voyage, but I see no reasons to deny him taking the floor. To suggest apologizing in public – it is possible," Mironov said on Monday, commenting on the planned discussion over the case of Gudkov Jr. The ethic commission plans to consider it on March 20.
It seems that Dmitry Gudkov has not realized yet that it must not be done so, Mironov supposed. "This way he combats evil in our country," he believes.
However, according to Mironov, it does not ease the consequences of Gudkov's trip to the United States, where he made a speech at the forum of the Freedom House human rights organization and proposed a number of measures to American politicians to put pressure on corrupt officials among Russian authorities, including in the State Duma.
"It is not good for current State Duma deputy to go to foreign parliaments and speak on obviously unfriendly grounds. It must not be done so." Mironov stated. "I hope Gudkov will make apologies publicly."
The Commission on Ethics Affairs on March 20 will consider the appeal of representative of all the four Duma parties in connection with Dmitry Gudkov's visit to America. The legislators ask to assess the actions of deputy Gudkov in connection with his trip to the United States and his speech he made on March 5, 2013 at the forum held by the Freedom House organization with the participation of U.S. Senate members, including the author of the anti-Russian "Magnitsky Law".
Acting commission head Andrei Andreyev, when he talked to reporters, declined to forecast what measures would be taken against Gudkov, but he recalled that the commission after considering a case of unparliamentary behavior might recommend the State Duma to make a rebuke, suggest making public apologies, spread information in media about the fact of violation of the deputy ethics regulations and deprive a legislator of the right to speak at one or a few meetings.
