MOSCOW, March 16 (Itar-Tass) - A Mi-8 helicopter crashed in Chechnya when landing in Khankala, Grozny's suburbs, under poor visibility conditions, the Russian Investigative Committee (SK) told Itar-Tass.
On Saturday morning, at about 05:00, a Mi-8 helicopter of Military Unit 2464 crashed when landing at the Khankala airfield in poor visibility after it carried out a military mission. Three crewmembers died in the crash, and one with a head injury, an open shinbone fracture and other injuries is hospitalized, an SK source said.
The SK 505th military investigation department based in Khankala has opened a criminal case on charges of violation of the flight safety regulations.
The helicopter was almost completely destroyed in the crash.
Military investigators are examining the site. Documents are taken from the military base for the investigation into the case.
Earlier, the Southern Military District Prosecutor's Office said the helicopter belonged to border guard troops and the victims were border guards.
