Bolshoi ballet’s artistic director to be able to return to profession after treatment – Filin’s medical supervisor

Sergei Filin also addressed the news conference telling the reporters he was in fair moods and was full of energies

AACHEN, Germany, March 15 (Itar-Tass) – Recuperation course of the artistic director of the Bolshoi ballet, Sergei Filin, is proceeding in strict compliance with the treatment plan and he will be able to return to his professional activities in the final run, Filin’s medical supervisor at a clinic in the German city of Aachen told reporters Friday.

At the beginning of February, Filin was attacked by the doors of his house in Moscow and the offenders splashed acid into his face, inflicting severe damage on the skin of his face and his eyesight.

He received an initial course of treatment at a general hospital in Moscow and was moved to the clinic in Aachen later on.

“Our patient received serious burns of the eyes and the face and we took all the possible measures to attain an earliest possible healing of the affected spots,” said Martin Hermel, the medical supervisor. “We’ve noticed considerable improvements in Mr. Filin’s left eye but as far as his right eye is concerned, we can’t make precise forecasts at this stage.”

Dr Hermel indicated that the recuperation course is far from complete yet.

Sergei Filin also addressed the news conference telling the reporters he was in fair moods and was full of energies.

“I’m really glad that this hospital in Aachen was chosen and I have the confidence now that we’re moving in the right direction,” he said.

“Although these steps aren’t broad enough for the time being, they really mean much to me,” Filin went on.

“I’m really full of energy and I have trust in – as well as willingness for – getting back what I was deprived of unlawfully,” he said.

“Doctors here are doing everything in their power and I’m confident that we’ll achieve big success all together,” Filin said.
