North Korea declares armistice agreement invalid

The republic plans “to further strengthen national nuclear deterrent forces that guarantee reliable protection of the country’s sovereignty”

PYONGYANG, March 13 (Itar-Tass) – North Korea has declared that the armistice agreement that ended the 1950–1953 Korean War becomes void, a representative of North Korea’s Ministry of People’s Armed Forces under the National Defence Commission said on Wednesday.

He noted that North Korea “considers itself free of obligations under this agreement.”

The official also said Pyongyang “will further pursue its “military first” (Songun) policies.” The republic plans “to further strengthen national nuclear deterrent forces that guarantee reliable protection of the country’s sovereignty.”
